Mary Kate Cary serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff for the Interim President of the University of Virginia and is an Adjunct Professor teaching Political Speechwriting and Democracy Out Loud. Cary also directs Think Again at UVA, promoting free speech and critical thinking through student programs. With extensive experience as a Political Analyst for CTV News and as a Political Commentator for NPR, Cary has contributed over 100 appearances on various NPR programs. A seasoned Professional Speechwriter, Cary has supported political leaders and Fortune 500 executives in delivering impactful speeches. Additional roles include Practitioner Senior Fellow at the Miller Center for Public Affairs and columnist for U.S. News & World Report. Notably, Cary was a speechwriter for President George H.W. Bush and has a BA in International Relations from the University of Virginia.
