Wendy Horton

CEO, UVA Medical Center at University of Virginia

As Chief Operating Officer, Horton is responsible for managing the daily operations of UVA Health. She stepped into this role in March 2020 to assist in the organization’s response to the crisis of the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to the vital services that deliver patient care, Horton’s oversight includes the continued implementation of critical quality and safety measures. Her role affords her the opportunity to facilitate innovative initiatives and optimize clinical operations, priming the organization for future strategic success.

With over a decade of academic medical center experience, Horton has developed robust clinical and operational expertise. As Chief Administrative Officer at Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center, she helped transform both structure and culture to elevate the quality of patient care, education and research throughout the College of Medicine and Faculty Group Practice. During her 12 years on the senior leadership team at the University of Wisconsin, Horton led successful clinical growth and quality improvement initiatives. While serving as the UW Health Vice President of Operations, she drove the development and activation of a new hospital.

Horton received a master’s in business administration in marketing and finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also holds a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Utah.

Horton is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
