Axel Schweiger

Axel Schweiger is a Senior Principal Scientist at the Polar Science Center of the University of Washington/Applied Physics Laboratory, a position held since October 1992, where expertise in satellite remote sensing techniques is applied to research Arctic climate variability, with a particular focus on cloud and sea ice interactions. Prior experience includes a role as a Professional Research Assistant at the National Snow and Ice Data Center of the University of Colorado from February 1988 to September 1989, involving the validation of satellite-based retrievals of sea ice concentrations and the use of neural networks for cloud detection over sea ice. Axel Schweiger earned a Ph.D. in High Latitude Climate Research from the University of Colorado Boulder between 1984 and 1992.
