Kelly Hudkins-Loya

Kelly Hudkins-Loya is a senior research scientist and lab manager at the University of Washington, specializing in the basic research of chronic renal diseases, particularly diabetic nephropathy. Since October 1987, Kelly has overseen a histopathology core lab that provides services to the UW community and external researchers. Previous experience includes roles as an independent stylist at Stella & Dot and a volunteer wine tasting room host at various wineries, including Obelisco Estate Vineyard and Alexandria Nicole Cellars. Early career experience involved working as an electron microscopy technician at UW Medical Center. Kelly holds a BS in Microbiology with honors from the University of Washington, a Certificate in Winemaking from Seattle Community College-South Campus, and was a candidate for an MS/PhD in Immunology/Microbiology at the University of Washington - School of Medicine.
