Mark A. Mone

Chancellor at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee

Mark Mone has made student success, growing research and partnerships, and fostering entrepreneurship and innovation his priorities, even as he manages the unprecedented fiscal challenges facing the university. Prior to being named the university’s ninth chancellor in 2014, he led UWM’s executive education and business engagement initiatives, including the longest-running Executive MBA program in Wisconsin. He earned his doctorate in organizational behavior and organization theory from Washington State University.

Dr. Mone has positioned UWM as a leader in transforming the region and state by advancing equity through education and addressing societal issues through research, strategic re-invention and partnerships.

Under his leadership, the university has been named a top-tier research institute by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education three times since attaining Research 1 status in 2016. UWM is one of the nation’s top universities for community engagement as classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

During his tenure, UWM spearheaded its most ambitious campaign, raising more than $251 million, increasing annual student scholarship awards to $5 million. Chancellor Mone implemented major campus construction projects, including a state-of-the-art Chemistry Building, the Lubar Entrepreneurship and Welcome Center, School of Freshwater Sciences, and the Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex.

UWM graduates more than 5,000 students annually and has over 200,000 alumni, with over 80% remaining in Wisconsin for at least the first decade beyond graduation.
