Beat Hotz-Hart

Hotz-Hart, Beat (1948) studied economics and political science for a doctorate at the University of Zurich. After working as an assistant, teaching assignments and deputy chair at the Universities of Zurich, Freiburg and ETH Zurich, he spent several years researching with a National Fund grant at the Universities of Münster (Westphalia), Berlin (Wissenschaftszentrum), Warwick and Harvard and habilitated in 1986 at the University of Freiburg. From 1982 to 1987 he was Head of the Department of Regional Economics at the ORL Institute of ETH Zurich.

From 1987 to 2010, Hotz-Hart held various positions at the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, most recently as Deputy Director at the Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology for 18 years. In addition to a wide range of international contacts, he completed the Executive Program 'Senior Managers in Government' at the JF Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University in 2004.

Since 1991, Hotz-Hart has been an associate professor for applied economics with a focus on innovation economics and policy at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Zurich (since 2007 professor ad personam) and retired in 2013. Since 2010 he has been a member of the staff of the Federal Technical Council colleges. He is also an expert at the Swiss National Science Foundation.
