Yuko Maekawa

Yuko Maekawa currently serves as the Head of the UNOPS Tokyo Liaison Office since April 2021. Previously, Yuko held the position of Head of the UN-Habitat Kurdistan Region of Iraq Office and Deputy Head of the Iraq Country Programme from March 2015 to March 2021. Experience also includes serving as a Programme Officer at United Nations OCHA from December 2013 to March 2015, and multiple roles at UNDP from September 2009 to November 2013, including Management Specialist, Programme Analyst, and Research Consultant. Yuko's earlier experience includes a Research Consultant role at The World Bank in mid-2008 and various positions at the Japan Bank for International Cooperation from April 2002 to July 2005, including Treasury Officer and Country Officer for Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Educational qualifications feature a Master of International Affairs in International Security Policy from Columbia University, a Bachelor of Arts in Law with a focus on International Law from Kyoto University, and a Master of Arts in Foreign Affairs with a concentration in Comparative Politics from the University of Virginia.
