Varun Iyengar

Varun Iyengar has a diverse background in machine learning and data engineering. Varun most recently worked as a Machine Learning Engineer at Unravel Carbon, a company affiliated with Y Combinator. Prior to that, Varun gained experience at IEEE NTU Student Branch, where they served as Events Vice-Chair and coordinated successful student-run workshops on NLP and Binary Exploitation. Varun also held the role of Tech Officer, organizing online workshops and contributing to the modification and deployment of an open-source MMO platform for a flagship hackathon. Varun interned as a Machine Learning Developer at SAP, where they worked on creating an NLP pipeline to extract entities from product names and descriptions, outperforming existing models. Varun also interned at Shopee, working on an NLP pipeline for location-based risk analysis, and at Moving Walls as a Data Engineering Intern, where they proposed and implemented improvements to a core data API and developed a time-series anomaly detection algorithm. Varun's work experience also includes a role as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Nanyang Technological University, where they worked on a deep reinforcement learning project.

Varun Iyengar began their education in 2008 at G.D. Somani Memorial School, where they completed their ICSE (10th Grade) in 2017. Varun then attended Pace Junior Science College from 2017 to 2019, earning their HSC (12th Grade) with a focus on Science. From 2019 to 2023, Varun pursued a Bachelor of Science - BSc Honours in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Nanyang Technological University Singapore.
