Head, Mental Health And Psychosocial Support Unit at UNRWA

Iyad Zaqout has extensive experience working in mental health and psychosocial support roles. From 2006 to 2015, they served as the Chief Community Mental Health Programme at UNRWA, where they provided technical advice and guidance for the agency's community mental health program. Iyad also supervised staff, organized training activities, and promoted a multidisciplinary, community-based approach to mental health.

From 2015 to 2018, they worked as a Senior Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Specialist at UNRWA, focusing on providing support in the same areas.

In 2018, they became the Head of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Unit at UNRWA.

In 2020, they joined the UNRWA Relief and Social Services Program as a Consultant for Staff Counseling and Social Services Development on secondment. Currently, they are also serving as the Co-Chair of the MHPSS Technical WorkGroup, a position they took up in 2023.

Iyad Zaqout obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Medicine from Hacettepe University, where they studied from 1989 to 1997. Iyad then pursued a Master's degree in both Neurology and Psychiatry Residency Programs from Suez Canal University, from 2002 to 2005.
