Layne Bunker began their career in 1986 as a Senior CAD Engineer SMTS at Micron Technology. In this role, they developed and supported CAD tools for full and semi-custom circuit design and layout, deployed improved security on worldwide Linux file system, and worked in collaboration with other CAD engineers to create an award-winning presentation for an internal technical seminar. Layne then became a Senior Circuit Designer SMTS, where they oversaw and implemented the layout for 3 generations of HMC and generated the circuits, layout, documentation and final tape out on 3 generations of test chips for HMC and WidelO DRAM. Bunker then moved into a managerial role as the Embedded Products Group Manager, managing a team of application, design and product engineers for the company's embedded DRAM projects. Layne then returned to a design engineer role, where they were a team member of a group developing Micron's 1st 256 Meg and 1st 6f^2 cell and oversaw layout team and designed various analog and digital circuits. Layne also co-developed Micron's 1st Place and Route system. Bunker then became the CAD Simulation Group Manager, where they trained, supported and mentored engineers in circuit layout, schematic entry, LVS, analog and digital simulation tools. Layne also developed skill, and shell scripts to improve design flow and utilization of systems. Finally, they were a Product Engineer on 64k and 256k DRAMs, where they micro-probed, tested, and debugged DRAM die to find manufacturing and design flaws and improve yield. In 2020, Bunker began working as a Senior Silicon CAD Engineer at Untether AI.
Layne Bunker obtained a BSEE in Communication Systems from the University of Idaho between 1981 and 1986. In February 2020, they earned a Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals certification from Microsoft.
