Ray Smets

Ray Smets has extensive work experience in the technology industry. Ray most recently served as the Chief Technology Officer at Verified Inc. (formerly Unum ID), starting in March 2023. Prior to that, they held the role of Lead Backend Engineer at Verified Inc. from October 2020 to March 2023, where they were responsible for backend architecture, feature development, and infrastructure. Ray also co-founded JT Labs in March 2021.

Before joining Verified Inc. and JT Labs, Ray worked as a Lead Backend Engineer at Nexkey, Inc. from October 2018 to October 2020, where they contributed to backend development. Ray was a Software Engineer at Neustar, Inc. from November 2017 to October 2018, focusing on the Data Management Platform team and integrating new technologies for integration tests.

Ray's earlier experiences include being a Software Engineer at Sophos from July 2015 to June 2017, where they led the development of the streaming Anti Virus sandbox infrastructure and developed a Machine Learning proxy detection solution. Ray started their career as an Engineering Intern at Mojave Networks in June 2014, helping streamline and automate network activity analysis for mobile applications. Ray also worked as a Software Developer Intern at Novacoast in 2013 and as a Software Engineer Intern at Metaswitch Networks in 2012, where they worked on improving media codec transcoding and UI readability.

Ray Smets completed their high school education at Marist School, where they obtained a High School Diploma from 2007 to 2011. Following that, they enrolled at Stanford University in 2010 for a Summer College program focused on Computer Science. In 2011, they attended UC Santa Barbara, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering until 2015. Lastly, in 2019, Ray Smets pursued a Master of Science degree in Cybersecurity from the Georgia Institute of Technology, which they completed in 2020.
