In 2004, they started their career as a Java Developer at Compuscan, where they developed HTML, CSS, and back-end Java code for the company's web application.
In 2005, Jean joined Ivory Tower Internet Solutions as a Java Web Developer. Jean was responsible for developing HTML, CSS, and back-end Java code for various clients.
Jean then worked at Quirk, a digital agency, from 2006 to 2017. Jean held several roles during their tenure, starting as a Java Web Developer and eventually becoming the Chief Technology Officer. Jean was involved in various projects such as corporate websites, Ecommerce websites, intranets, mobile applications, and digital activations.
From 2017 to 2019, Jean worked as a Senior Developer at Samewave, contributing to the client-side development of the company's web, mobile, and desktop clients using Ember.js.
In 2019, Jean joined GitLab Inc. as an Engineering Manager. Jean led a newly created team in building a new editing experience for static websites and a rich content editing experience on GitLab's platform.
Next, Jean worked at Sourcegraph from 2020 to 2022. Jean initially served as an Engineering Manager and later became the Director Of Engineering, leading the Enablement organization responsible for developer experience and enablement.
In 2021, Jean also worked as a Mentor at Plato, providing guidance and support to individuals in their professional development.
Currently, Jean is a Senior Engineering Manager at Upbound, taking on a leadership role within the company.
Jean du Plessis has a diverse education history. Jean attended Brackenfell High School from 1998 to 2002, where they studied Mathematics, Science, Computer Studies, Accounting, English, and Afrikaans. After completing high school, in 2003, Jean pursued a Diploma in Software and Web Development at Smartsource.
In addition to their formal education, Jean has obtained various certifications through LinkedIn. In August 2020, they completed a certification course on Unconscious Bias.
