Alexander Markes is an orthopedic surgery sports medicine fellow at UPMC, having commenced this role in August 2025. Prior to this, Alexander completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco from June 2020 to June 2025, and earned a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the same institution in 2020. Alexander's medical education includes a Bachelor of Science (BS) with honors in Biology from Brown University. In addition to clinical experience, Alexander contributed to medical outreach and education initiatives as a board member of the UCSF Chapter of the Student National Medical Association and as a surgical skills leader in the UCSF Surgery Interest Group. Early career experiences include work as a pre-medical intern at Stetson Powell Orthopedics, a research associate at Rhode Island Hospital, and various roles supporting student learning at Brown University. Alexander's athletic background includes competing as a member of the Brown University Men's Varsity Soccer team, which achieved national rankings and Ivy League success.
