Honggang Wang

Honggang Wang has a strong background in engineering and research, primarily in the energy sector. Honggang is currently working at Upstart Power, Inc. as Vice President of System Engineering, a role they started in February 2023. Prior to this, they held the position of Director of System Engineering at the same company from September 2022 to February 2023.

Before joining Upstart Power, Inc., Wang worked at GE Research from 2017 to 2022, where they held several roles. Honggang started as a Lead Electrical and Controls Engineer and served as the Principal Investigator for a DOE-funded project. From 2015 to 2017, Wang worked at GE Fuel Cells as a Lead Control System Engineer. In this role, they led the commissioning, installation, and testing of a 1MW SOFC Hybrid system. Additionally, they managed the coordination of various teams involved in the project.

Prior to GE Fuel Cells, Wang worked at GE Global Research from 2011 to 2015. Honggang started as a Research Engineer, conducting root cause analysis of boiler combustion imbalance using neural network. Honggang later became a Lead Engineer, leading projects related to combustion balancing and deslagging for coal-fired power plants. Wang was recognized as the 2014 Whitney Award winner for their work on fuel cell system concept validation.

Wang's earlier experience includes a brief role as a Visiting Scientist at Ghent University in 2008. During this time, they evaluated and tested a first-principle based kinetic model for the steam cracking process.
