Pierre Thalamy

Senior Full-stack Software Engineer at Uptale

Pierre Thalamy has extensive work experience in the field of robotics and software engineering. Pierre started their career as a Software Developer Intern for Research in Modular Robotics at Carnegie Mellon University in 2014, where they designed and developed a test framework for distributed embedded systems. Pierre then continued their research in modular robotics at the FEMTO-ST Institute, where they worked as a Software Developer Intern and implemented a virtual machine for executing instructions onto embedded systems. Pierre also gained experience as an iOS Developer at NSIGMA Junior-Entreprise, where they fixed bugs and implemented new functionalities for an iPad app. Pierre further expanded their knowledge in robotics as a Software Engineer Intern at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where they kick-started the development of a graphical simulator for modular robotics research. Pierre's doctoral research at the FEMTO-ST Institute focused on distributed algorithms and advanced modeling approaches for object construction using modular self-reconfigurable robotic systems. During this time, they also served as a Lead Open-Source Software Engineer for the VisibleSim modular robotic simulator. Additionally, Pierre worked as a Teaching Assistant and Course Coordinator at the Université de Franche-Comté, where they supervised activities and taught undergraduate and Master's degree courses in Networks and Telecommunications. Most recently, Pierre joined Uptale - Immersive Learning as an R&D Software Engineer.

Pierre Thalamy pursued their education in computer science and applied mathematics. In 2012, they obtained a high school diploma in sciences from Lycée Xavier Marmier. From 2012 to 2014, they attended IUT de Belfort-Montbéliard, where they completed a 2-year undergraduate degree in computer systems networking and telecommunications.

In 2014, Pierre enrolled at the National School of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics of Grenoble, where they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in computer engineering and applied mathematics, successfully completing it in 2015. Pierre then continued their studies at the same institute and obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in computer systems engineering in 2017.

Additionally, in 2016, Pierre participated in an exchange semester at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, where they completed a Master of Science (MS) program in computer software engineering.

Pierre's academic journey reached its pinnacle when they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in computer science at the Université de Franche-Comté from 2017 to 2020.

Throughout their education, Pierre also acquired various certifications to enhance their knowledge. Pierre obtained certifications in "Intégrité scientifique dans les métiers de la recherche" from France Université Numérique in September 2020, and in "Structuring Machine Learning Projects," "Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization," and "Neural Networks and Deep Learning" from Coursera between June and July 2020. Additionally, Pierre attained an intermediate level in Spanish proficiency estimated by Duolingo in September 2016 and achieved a TOEIC score of 985 out of 990 in 2014, certifying their English language skills.
