Joy Nelson is the Chief People Officer at Urban Initiatives. Joy previously worked as a Technical Advisor for Achievement Gap Initiatives at the YMCA of the USA from January 2017 to December 2018. Prior to that, they were the Play with Potential Program Director at Urban Initiatives from July 2014 to August 2017. Joy also worked as a Program Coordinator at the Illinois AfterSchool Network from October 2013 to October 2014.

Joy Nelson has a Doctor of Education from DePaul University in Educational Leadership and Administration, a Master of Education from the University of Illinois Chicago in Youth Development, and a Master of Public Health from Purdue University Global in Epidemiology. Joy also has a Bachelor of Arts from Butler University in Anthropology. Joy is certified by the National Notary Association as a Notary Public Commission and by the American Heart Association as a Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS). Joy is also certified by Mental Health First Aid USA as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor.

Joy Nelson reports to Julie Chelovich Perconte, Chief Operations Officer. They are on a team with Nicole Meunier - Director, Special Events, Adrians Cleveland - Lead Manager, Campaign, and Amy Buscemi - Lead Manager, Board Engagement.
