Andrew Gillies has a diverse work experience spanning different roles and industries. Andrew is currently the Co-Founder & CTO of Urban Machine, where they lead technology and innovation efforts focused on improving construction sustainability through automation. Prior to this, Andrew served as the Chief Engineer & Advisor (Consultant) at Root Applied Sciences and as a Mentor for Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship at Draper University.

In 2019, Andrew worked at Circuit Launch as a Robotics Educator, contributing to the development of an online project-based learning program for robotics engineers. Andrew also served as a Robotics Consultant, helping companies develop automation strategies to address labor and sustainability challenges.

Before that, Andrew held the position of Robotics Subject Matter Expert at Western Growers Foundation from May to July 2021. Andrew gained significant experience as the Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Dash Robotics, Inc. from 2014 to 2019, leading product development, engineering strategy, and successfully launching several consumer products to the mass-market retail.

Andrew's educational background includes a PhD in Robotics from UC Berkeley, where they conducted research on controllable adhesives inspired by geckos and their applications in climbing robots and solar panel cleaning. Andrew also has experience as a Manufacturing Engineer at GE Water & Process Technologies.

Andrew Gillies completed their Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto between 2002 and 2007. Andrew then pursued further education at the University of California, Berkeley, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biomechanical Engineering from 2008 to 2012.
