L. Anthony Cirillo, MD, FACEP, is a practicing emergency physician and serves as the Director of Government Affairs for USACS. In his role as Director of Government Affairs, Dr. Cirillo advocates in the legislative, regulatory and judicial arenas for improvements in the healthcare system and to protect the provider-patient relationship. In addition, he works to educate emergency clinicians on being more effective advocates for the practice of emergency medicine and their patients.
Dr. Cirillo is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Cirillo was elected to the National Board of Directors of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in 2018 and was elected to serve as Chair of the Board for 2022-23. Prior to being elected to the ACEP Board of Directors, Dr. Cirillo has previously served as chair of ACEP’s Membership, State Regulatory, and Federal Government Affairs Committees, and on numerous Task Forces for the College. Dr. Cirillo is also a Past Chair of the Emergency Medicine Policy Institute (EMPI) Board of Governors and a past board member of the Emergency Department Practice Management Association.
During his professional career, Dr. Cirillo has had faculty appointments to UMASS Medical Center, Albany Medical Center, Brown Medical School, SUNY Upstate Medical Center and the University of Rhode Island College of Nursing.
Dr. Cirillo earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center where he was chief resident.
