Feng Yan

Mechanical Engineer at US Medical Innovations

Feng Yan began their professional career in 2010 as an After-service & Technical Assistant Intern for the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (Group). In 2012, they participated in the 2012 Sixth Honda Eco-power Competition. From 2013-2014, they were a Design Engineer for the Lawrence Technological University Formula Hybrid Competition. In 2014, Feng Yan joined US Medical Innovations as a Mechanical Engineer. During their time there, they researched, designed, developed and tested custom machined, sheet metal, injection molded, and 3D printed parts. Feng designed 3D CAD models and provided 2D engineering drawings using SolidWorks/Creo. Feng also performed design validation techniques and tolerance analysis. Feng led the medical trolley cart project and developed three prototypes with different functions, which they presented at the American College of Surgeons (ACS) from 2014-2018. Feng also led the Canady Plasma Endoscopic Probe project and assisted in mass production of the Endo Probe into the market. Feng Yan designed the electrosurgical monopolar and bipolar foot-pedal and assisted in mass production into the market. Feng designed and developed the Canady Plasma XL-1000 Smart Electrosurgical Generator, mainly focusing on the mechanical design of the front panel and sheet metal case. Feng also designed and developed the Canady Robotic Surgical System, a robotic laparoscopic surgical stapler. Additionally, they conducted other projects such as the cold plasma cable, quick connector, and peristaltic pump as assigned by the company. Feng also conferred and coordinated with engineers, different suppliers, or others of each project to build the prototype of some products. Feng developed and built the Design History File (DHF) of each project for USMI projects, like BOMs.

Feng Yan obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Automotive Engineering from Shanghai University of Engineering Science between 2009 and 2013. Feng then went on to earn a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from The George Washington University between 2013 and 2015. In addition, they have obtained several certifications from Dassault Systèmes and Autodesk, including Certified SolidWorks Professional - Advanced Mold Tools (CSWPA - MT), Certified SolidWorks Professional - Advanced Drawing Tools (CSWPA - DT), Certified SolidWorks Professional - Advanced Sheet Metal (CSWPA - SM), Certified SolidWorks Professional - Advanced Surfacing (CSWPA - Surfacing), Certified SolidWorks Professional - Mechanical Design (CSWP), and AutoCAD Senior Engineering Certification.
