Ben Kirkup

Ben Kirkup is a microbial ecologist with extensive experience in the study of bacterial antagonism and microbial ecology. They have served in various roles including Senior Biologist for the US Navy and Senior Biologist at the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, where they initiate and oversee projects related to biotechnology and biodefense. Ben's academic background includes a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Yale University and a MA in MCD Biology from Harvard University. Their work combines laboratory experimentation, field observations, and theoretical approaches to advance understanding in microbial ecology and its applications to human health and performance. Currently, Ben is a Research Assistant Professor at Uniformed Services University, focusing on leadership in innovation and research within the field.
