Alicia "Lisa" Shepard is an accomplished independent journalist and author with a diverse background in media and education. Currently serving as a member of USA TODAY's Board of Contributors since March 2016, Shepard writes opinion columns focused on the media and women in media. In addition to independent journalism since January 2018, previous roles include Visiting Media Ethics Professor at the University of Arkansas and Senior Press Liaison for USAID in Kabul, Afghanistan. Shepard has also worked as Managing Editor for a citizen journalist website in Kabul and taught journalism at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Educational credentials include a Master's degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor's degree in English from The George Washington University.
