Mizell Stewart III is currently the VP / News Performance, Talent & Partnerships at USA Today. Prior to this, they were with Gannett | USA TODAY NETWORK, Emerging Leaders, and The Poynter Institute. Most recently, they were with Journal Media Group from April 2015 to April 2016 as the Managing Director, Chief Content Officer. In this role, they provided strategic leadership and direction for more than 700 journalists in 14 U.S. markets serving news consumers on digital and print platforms. Mizell also oversaw local newsroom and digital operations, centralized editing, shared services, staff development and content partnerships. Journal Media Group markets included the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Naples (Fla.) Daily News, The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal, Knoxville News Sentinel, Treasure Coast (Fla.) Newspapers and the Ventura County Star. Mizell also established a national digital desk to curate and distribute non-local content across the entire Journal Media Group footprint which included developing content verticals on key news and information topics and live social media coverage of major news events.
Mizell Stewart III has a Master of Science degree in Executive Leadership and Organizational Change from Northern Kentucky University, an Advanced Executive Program degree from the Joint program of the Kellogg School of Management and the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Bowling Green State University.
