Michael Simpson serves as the Unique Device Identifier (UDI) Project Manager at the FDA since October 2012, overseeing the UDI program aimed at enhancing patient safety and device innovation. In previous roles at the FDA, Michael has been a lead reviewer in the Division of Drug Delivery and General Hospital Devices, an acting team lead, and an investigator for medical devices, focusing on compliance and regulatory issues. Additionally, Michael holds the rank of Commander and Logistics Officer within the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service, where responsibilities have included managing safety and logistics at a field hospital for Ebola treatment. Michael's educational background includes a Master’s degree in Project Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland.
