In 1973, Ratna moved into the banking industry, working for Bank of Ceylon until 1975. From 1975 to 1980, Ratna worked in banking at Hatton National Bank PLC. In 1984, Ratna joined Utah Community Credit Union (UCCU) as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). After leaving UCCU, Ratna founded Cudata.com in 1999 and served as the founder until 2005.
