Principal UX Designer at Utility Warehouse

Dan Gallagher-Cowley has extensive experience in user experience (UX) and product design. Dan is currently working as a Principal UX Designer at Utility Warehouse since 2021. Prior to this, they were a UX & UI Lead at Disclosure Scotland from 2019 to 2021, where they played a key role in developing a user-centered design strategy and creating Scotland's first digital Protecting Vulnerable Groups offering.

From 2018 to 2019, Dan worked as the Head of UX & UI at ScottishPower, where they built and developed the Design team and implemented a human-centered design practice across ScottishPower and the wider Iberdrola group. Dan collaborated with product owners to improve the agile system and enhance user empathy and understanding.

Before that, Dan served as a UX & UI Lead at City Facilities Management Ltd from 2017 to 2018, where they established a comprehensive UX strategy and design process. Dan also developed an internal Design System and conducted continuous research to identify usability issues.

From 2012 to 2017, Dan held multiple roles at STV Group plc, including User Experience & Product Design Lead and Senior Product Designer. In these positions, they grew and developed the UX & Product Design Team, implemented a user-led design process, and introduced a single design language. Dan also played a key role in major projects, such as the redesign of the STV Player.

Dan began their career as a Digital Designer at We Are AD from 2011 to 2012, where they focused on creating and developing client-facing solutions while balancing client requirements and UX best practices.

Dan Gallagher-Cowley earned a Bachelor's Degree in Adventure Recreation Management from Glasgow Caledonian University between the years 2002 and 2006. Dan later pursued a Master's Degree in Sustainable Rural Development from UHI, completing their studies from 2007 to 2010.
