Maite van Gerwen

Maite van Gerwen is an experienced professional dedicated to animal welfare and human-animal conflict mediation. Currently serving as Director/President of CAS International since October 2022, Maite leads efforts to end bullfighting and related cultural events causing animal suffering. In addition, Maite operates Animo Animalis, providing consultancy and workshops focused on pest control and human-wild animal conflicts. Maite's extensive academic background includes a PhD candidacy at Universiteit Utrecht, concentrating on animal welfare in rodent control, and various roles in animal welfare organizations, including project leadership in sustainable animal stewardship and participation in national pest control programs. Maite's education includes multiple master's degrees in animal health, behavior, and welfare, complemented by recent training in mediation.
