Ivan Franzoni

Senior Computational Molecular Design Scientist at Valence Discovery

Ivan Franzoni's work experience begins with their current position at Valence Discovery as a Senior Computational Molecular Design Scientist. In this role, Ivan applies computational chemistry approaches to internal and external drug discovery programs, utilizing structural- and ligand-based approaches, cheminformatics, and molecular dynamics. Ivan evaluates the medicinal chemistry bases for potential projects, proposes strategies and approaches, and integrates AI/ML models with the expert team. Ivan also supports the development of the company's ML-based drug discovery platform.

Prior to Valence Discovery, Ivan worked at NuChem Sciences, first as a Senior Scientist I from January 2021 to April 2022, where they supervised cheminformatic interns and provided support to business development and marketing. Ivan then transitioned to the role of Research Scientist from July 2018 to December 2020, where they provided computational chemistry support to medicinal chemistry projects. Ivan independently executed computational studies, implemented and applied computational models, and collaborated with chemistry and biology groups within the company.

Before joining NuChem Sciences, Ivan was a PostDoc fellow in the Prof. Lautens Group at the University of Toronto from February 2016 to June 2018. In this role, they worked on a medicinal chemistry project for the development of chemical probes, as well as the elucidation of reaction mechanisms through experiments and theoretical approaches.

Ivan also has experience as a Synfacts Magazine Contributor at Georg Thieme Verlag KG from April 2016 to December 2017. Ivan participated in the Bayer postdoc workshop in 2017 and the 10th CaRLa Winter School at BASF in 2017.

Ivan'sacademic experience includes being a Graduate student (Ph.D.) in the Prof. Mazet Group at Université de Genève from October 2011 to January 2016. During their Ph.D., Ivan focused on the development of novel catalytic methods and the design and synthesis of new chiral phosphine ligands. Ivan also conducted organometallic and computational studies of reaction mechanisms.

Additionally, Ivan has a teaching experience as a Teacher of Analytical Chemistry and Laboratory at Istituto d'Istruzione Superiore "F. Meneghini", Edolo (BS), Italy from October 2008 to June 2009.

Ivan Franzoni has a diverse education history. Ivan began their academic journey in 2000 and completed their Diploma di Perito Chimico-Biologico at Istituto d'Istruzione Superiore "F. Meneghini" in Edolo (BS), Italy, in 2005.

Following their bachelor's degree, Ivan pursued higher education at Università degli Studi di Milano, where they obtained a Master's degree in Organic Chemistry from 2009 to 2011.

After completing their master's program, Ivan furthered their studies at the University of Geneva from 2011 to 2016. Ivan successfully earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Chemistry during this period.

In addition to their academic accomplishments, Ivan obtained a certification in TFC-Q from the Centre international d'études pédagogiques (CIEP) in January 2019.
