David Christensen

Chief Medical Officer at Valley Children's Healthcare

Dr. David Christensen is senior vice president, medical affairs and chief physician executive for Valley Children’s Healthcare.

Prior to joining Valley Children’s in February 2010, Dr. Christensen served as senior vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He has held a variety of medical leadership positions over his career, including medical director at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Center in Tacoma, Wash., and division chief at Southwest Medical Associates in Nevada.

Board certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Christensen has 25 years’ clinical pediatrics experience in rural and tertiary medical centers, children’s hospitals and multispecialty groups. A fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, he has published in professional journals including the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology and Physiologist. He is a member of the American College of Physician Executives and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Dr. Christensen received his medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and completed his internship and residency at Stanford University where he received the Education Award in Adolescent Medicine. He completed a master’s degree in healthcare management at Harvard University, a master’s degree in business administration at the University of California, Los Angeles and a master’s degree in public health from the University of California, Berkeley.
