Eric Stangeland has a diverse work experience in the pharmaceutical and research industry. Eric started their career as a Summer Intern at Chevron Research in 1993. From 1999 to 2002, they worked at Advanced Medicine as a Scientist, where they made significant contributions to various chemistry projects. At Theravance, they held multiple roles from 2002 to 2012, including Research Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Associate Director. During this time, they led teams, proposed original chemistry strategies, and designed multiple novel classes of reuptake inhibitors and respiratory compounds. In 2012, they joined the Institute for Rare and Neglected Diseases Drug Discovery as a Medicinal Chemistry Advisor, where they employed creative strategies and established collaborations for two projects. Eric then moved on to Numerate, Inc., where they served as the Director of Medicinal Chemistry from 2013 to 2018 and later as the Vice President of Chemistry until 2019. Currently, they are working at Valo Health as the Vice President and Head of Discovery Sciences.
Eric Stangeland earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Cruz, which they attended from 1989 to 1993. Eric then pursued further education and obtained a Ph.D in Organic Chemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder, completing their doctoral studies in 1999.
