James Bullis

Senior Principal Scientist, Head of Lab Informatics at Valo

James Bullis has a diverse work experience spanning several years.

James currently holds the position of Senior Principal Scientist and Head of Lab Informatics at Valo since April 2021.

Prior to that, from 2019 to 2021, they worked at PerkinElmer, Inc. as a Sr. Software Service Specialist. In this role, they were responsible for creating Analytics and Data Products for Clinical, Translational, Clin-Ops, and DMPK. James also served as the Technical Lead for new data products and worked closely with customers to establish requirements.

Before joining PerkinElmer, Inc., they were the Manager of R&D IS at FORMA Therapeutics, Inc. from August 2018 to April 2019. As the liaison between Research and IT, they worked on understanding customer's Analytics needs and translating them into suitable products within the ecosystem. James also managed IT projects in collaboration with Project Managers, Technical Leads, and Consultants.

From November 2017 to July 2018, they worked as a Senior IT Manager at Biogen, where they served as the IT liaison to the small molecule group. James acted as the Business Relationship Manager to small molecules research group and maintained a portfolio of over 80 applications.

Prior to their tenure at Biogen, they worked at Genedata as a Scientific Account Manager from August 2013 to November 2017. In this role, they supported the Expressionist and Profiler platforms tailored for genomics, metabolomics, and proteomics. James conducted data analysis projects and developed scripts for automating data flows.

James Bullis's earlier experiences include working as a Postdoc at Brandeis University from an unknown start date to June 2013, where they conducted research exploring the influence of ion channel expression on neuronal function. James also worked as a Graduate Student at the University of Washington from an unknown start date to 2008.

James Bullis completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Minnesota. James then went on to pursue a Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Washington, which they obtained in 2008. In addition to their formal education, James Bullis has also obtained several certifications in various data analysis and programming courses, including Coursera Verified Certificates in Developing Data Products, Practical Machine Learning, Regression Models, Statistical Inference, Reproducible Research, Exploratory Data Analysis, Getting and Cleaning Data, R Programming, and The Data Scientist's Toolbox. James has also earned several edX Honor Code Certificates, including Advanced Statistics for the Life Sciences, Case Study: ChIP-seq data analysis, Case Study: RNA-seq data analysis, Case Study: Variant Discovery and Genotyping, and Introduction to Bioconductor.
