Bart Massie has extensive work experience in the transportation industry. Bart started their career at Van Hool in 1988 as an Engineer and later became a Project Manager, responsible for various systems including engine cooling and accessory drives. In 2011, they became the Chief Engineer of the Energy Transportation Systems Engineering Department, where they specialized in engine cooling, air intake systems, and fuel systems. Their role also involved managing projects related to engine cooling, hydraulic systems, and coach and bus components. Currently, Bart Massie holds the position of Chief Engineer Drive Train and Energy Transportation team, leading the development and validation of powertrain systems, including diesel, CNG, FCEV, EV, HEV, and PHEV technologies.
Bart Massie pursued their education in various fields. Bart attended Vlerick Business School from 2008 to 2009, where they obtained a General Management: Middle Management degree. During the academic year 1989-1990, Bart Massie enrolled in Hogeschool Antwerpen to study Intergrale Kwaliteitszorg IKZ, specializing in Quality Management. Their Master's degree was acquired from KU Leuven, where they studied Mechanical and Constructional Engineering from 1983 to 1988.

Van Hool, established in 1947 by Bernard Van Hool and ever since a non-listed family-owned and -run business, is a Belgian manufacturer of buses, coaches and industrial vehicles. Van Hool has around 4,450 staff worldwide, the majority of whom of course work in the production facilities in Koningshooikt (Belgium) and in Skopje (Macedonia). Annual production has reached levels of 1,200 buses and 3,000 trailers.
