Ben Hyman

Executive Director at VANCOUVER ISLAND REGIONAL LIBRARY

Ben Hyman's work experience includes serving as the Executive Director at Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) starting from August 2021. Prior to that, they worked as the University/Chief Librarian at Vancouver Island University from February 2017 to August 2021. Ben also served as the Founding Executive Director at BC Libraries Cooperative from April 2011 to February 2017. Earlier in their career, they worked for the Government of British Columbia, holding positions such as Director, Strategic Alignment at the Ministry of Education from October 2009 to April 2011, and Manager, Policy & Technology at the Ministry of Education from October 2006 to September 2009.

Ben Hyman has a Master's degree in Information Science from the University of Alberta, which they obtained in the academic year 1998-1999. In addition, they completed a program in Cooperatives, Co-op economies, and Cohesion at the Vancity Cooperative Studies Program in Bologna, Italy during the year 2018. Ben also holds a Bachelor's degree in Arts from the University of Alberta, which they earned in the period from 1992 to 1996. Their Bachelor's degree was focused on History and Anthropology.
