Steven K. Ertel is the Vice Chancellor for Communications & Marketing at Vanderbilt University. Steven has over 20 years of experience in strategic communications, media relations, and marketing.

Steven began their career as a Public Relations Coordinator at IEEE in 1998. Steven then moved to Euro RSCG Middleberg, where they were an Account Executive from 1998 to 2001. In 2001, they became the Director of Media Relations at Environmental Defense. Steven held that position for three years before moving to The Nature Conservancy, where they served as the Director of Media Relations from 2004 to 2008. In 2008, Steven became the Vice President of Strategic Communications at the World Wildlife Fund, where they worked for nine years before joining Vanderbilt University in 2017.

Steven K. Ertel's educational career began at Rutgers University, where they majored in Communications and minored in Human Ecology.
