Clifford Ondara

Co-Founder & MD at Vanilla Steel

Clifford Ondara is the co-founder and managing director of Vanilla Steel, the first independent digital platform for the excess steel market. Prior to Vanilla Steel, Clifford was an entrepreneur in residence at thyssenkrupp Steel and the head of business development and finance at Kreatize GmbH. At Kreatize, Clifford led the business development (sales), finance, business intelligence and HR functions. Clifford also established a new inside sales function, built a KPI-based steering framework with key sales and operations metrics available live via PowerBI dashboards, and secured high-six digit funding in low interest public credit. Clifford has also worked as a senior management consultant at BASF, where they executed projects mandated by senior executives (including the board of executive directors) as a senior consultant and project lead. Some of their key projects included setting up a demand management model for delivery of functional services to business units, conducting a business model review for an automotive supplier in Spain, and setting up a service organization for a global research institution. Clifford has a total of 4 years of experience in management consulting.

Clifford Ondara has a MSc. in Development Finance from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, where they took immersion courses in macroeconomics, finance and management in the development context including capital market development, project and housing finance, microfinance, and risk management of financial institutions. Clifford also has a BSc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Jacobs University Bremen, where they specialized in microelectronics with interdisciplinary courses in economics, business administration and management. Theirhigh school diploma is from Starehe Boys' Center, where they studied Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, and Computer Science.
