Charles Mercier

VP of Systems and Security at Variantyx

Charles Mercier has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Charles currently holds the position of VP of Systems and Security at Variantyx since September 2021. Before that, they served as the Director of Systems and Security at the same company from November 2017 to October 2021.

Prior to joining Variantyx, Charles worked at Imprivata as the Principal Network Architect from June 2016 to November 2017. Charles was responsible for building and supporting scalable network, security, and load balancing environments across multiple data centers.

From August 2011 to June 2016, Charles held the position of Head of Systems, Architecture and Engineering at Credorax. Charles led a senior DevOps team to support the architecture, design, and implementation of various networks, servers, databases, and automation/tooling.

Before Credorax, Charles worked at Nokia as a Network Architect from August 2009 to August 2011. Charles was responsible for designing and supporting platforms that hosted millions of users and handled significant daily downloads.

Charles also worked as the Director of Network Operations at REIT Management & Research, Inc. from February 2008 to June 2009. Charles led the networking department in supporting a multi-billion dollar organization and played a key role in designing and deploying network technology.

From 2006 to 2008, Charles worked at Thomson Financial in two different roles. Firstly, as the Team Lead of Engineering Design and Deployment, LAN, they established standards and deployed new LANs across various Thomson companies. Secondly, as a Web Hosting Architect, they designed and built standards for web-based services.

Prior to Thomson Financial, Charles served as the Manager of Networking at BCGI from August 2005 to December 2006. Charles led a team of Engineers and oversaw networking activities for a wireless operator-focused company.

Before that, Charles worked at Ariba, Inc. as a Senior Network Engineer from 1999 to 2005. Charles held the position of Acting Senior Network Architect and Project Manager, overseeing critical networks and disaster recovery environments.

Charles also worked as a Senior Network Engineer at Suppliermarket.com, a B2B startup that was later acquired by Ariba, Inc. Charles designed, built, and managed a large, scalable production data center and an internal IT network infrastructure.

To start their career, Charles worked at The George Washington University as a Senior Information Systems Engineer. Charles designed and managed the university's network infrastructure, including a migration to a large ATM infrastructure.

Throughout their career, Charles has consistently demonstrated expertise in systems and security, network architecture and design, and managing complex projects in dynamic environments.

Charles Mercier earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from The George Washington University. Charles attended the university from 1988 to 1998, completing their undergraduate education in this field of study.
