Michael Rao

President, VCU & VCU Health System at VCU Health

Michael Rao has been the President of VCU and VCU Health System since 2009. Michael is also a tenured professor at the university. Prior to their current position, Rao served as the President of Central Michigan University from 2000 to 2009 and as the Chancellor of Montana State University from 1998 to 2000. Michael began their career in 1992 as the Interim President of Mission College, where they served until 1998 when they became the President of the school.

Dr. Rao earned their Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Florida. Michael also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from the University of South Florida.

Some direct reports include Michael Roussos - President, VCU Medical Center, Jay E. Davenport - Chief Development Officer, and W. Scott Burnette - President, VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital.
