Lou Cornacchione

Senior Scientist, Microbiology at Vedanta Biosciences

Lou Cornacchione is a Scientist II at Vedanta Biosciences. Previously, Lou worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Tufts University from May 2019 to July 2019 and as a Graduate Student at Tufts University School of Medicine from September 2013 to May 2019. Lou's doctoral thesis research focused on the mechanisms by which probiotic bacteria like lactobacillus species antagonize growth of oral pathogens, specifically anaerobic pathogens like porphyromonas gingivalis. Lou used biochemical (ion exchange chromatography, gel filtration, and recombinant protein purification, etc.) and genetic approaches like Tn-seq and whole genome sequencing to address these questions. Lou's secondary project utilized Tn-seq to identify novel genes involved in pigmentation of porphyromonas and characterized the role of a new glycosyltransferase. Prior to working at Tufts University, Lou was an Undergraduate Student Researcher at Middlebury College from January 2012 to May 2013.

Dr. Lou Cornacchione is a molecular microbiologist who earned their PhD from Tufts University. Prior to their PhD, they completed a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from Middlebury College.
