Andrew Burkes MSOE MIRTE is a seasoned automotive engineer with extensive experience in vehicle homologation and insurance claims engineering. Currently serving as a Senior Type Approval Engineer at the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) UK since March 2015, Andrew is responsible for liaising with manufacturers, conducting tests, and compiling technical reports and approval certificates. Prior to this role, Andrew worked as a Motor Claims Engineer at QBE Insurance for 15 years, assessing vehicle damages and establishing market values. Andrew’s career also includes positions at Zurich Insurance Company Ltd as an In House Engineer and as a Quality Controller at Deepcut Garage, alongside military service as a Vehicle Engineer in the British Army. Andrew holds educational qualifications from the School of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering and Princess Marina College.

We are an Executive Agency of the Department for Transport and exist to improve vehicle safety and environmental protection by providing robust testing and certification to internationally recognised standards. Designated by the Secretary of State to discharge their statutory responsibility for operating national and UNECE type approval schemes, we approve most categories of new vehicles from locations in the UK and overseas. We have also been designated to act as the UK authority for the certification of packaging and intermediate bulk containers used for the transport of dangerous goods.
