Simon F. is a highly experienced engineering professional with a robust background in vehicle certification and compliance. Currently serving as a Principal Engineer at the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) since November 2023, Simon has previously held significant roles, such as Group Head of Engineering and Compliance at WILKER U.K. LIMITED and A.J. Engineering Services Ltd., as well as Senior Engineer at Toyota Motor Europe, where responsibilities included planning and managing safety certification testing programs. Simon's career commenced at the Department for Transport and Executive Agencies as a Graduate Project Engineer, complemented by earlier technical roles in mechanical handling and fabrication. Educational qualifications include a BENG(HONS) in Motorsports Engineering from the University of Central Lancashire and an HND in Motorsports from Myerscough College.

We are an Executive Agency of the Department for Transport and exist to improve vehicle safety and environmental protection by providing robust testing and certification to internationally recognised standards. Designated by the Secretary of State to discharge their statutory responsibility for operating national and UNECE type approval schemes, we approve most categories of new vehicles from locations in the UK and overseas. We have also been designated to act as the UK authority for the certification of packaging and intermediate bulk containers used for the transport of dangerous goods. With more than 40 years’ experience, we have become one of the largest and well-respected approval bodies around.
