Rene Dominguez

Rene Dominguez is the current President & COO at VelocityTX. Rene has also served as the Director for the Economic Development Department at the City of San Antonio from July 2010 to July 2019. In this role, they provided overall strategic, administrative, and programmatic direction and oversight for a department that includes 5 divisions, 40 employees, and a $15.2M budget (2018).

Dominguez is responsible for developing and implementing Forefront SA, a community-wide economic development strategic plan that unifies and elevates development efforts to propel San Antonio to the forefront of today’s top-performing cities. Rene also initiated a partnership that evolved the City’s economic development system which will integrate issues that impact social mobility like education, housing, infrastructure, and poverty among others. Additionally, Dominguez is piloting an innovative client management system that connects multiple workforces and social service agencies to a shared software platform that maneuvers participants through agency services until sustained, meaningful employment.

Under Dominguez’s leadership, the City of San Antonio has recruited/retained 57 city-sponsored projects, which represent the creation of 20K jobs and a $2.5B investment. These projects include Fortune 500 corporations, locally headquartered corporations, leading international ITcompanies, and revolutionary biotech start-ups. Rene has also co-assisted in the City's $21.6M Consolidated Funding Process that includes RFP’s soliciting social

Rene Dominguez has a Master of Arts in Communications Studies with an emphasis in Marketing/Public Relations from St. Mary's University. Rene also has a Bachelor of Arts in English Communication Arts from St. Mary's University.
