Socorro Aguilar

Head of Frontend Development & User Experience at Vendorflow

Socorro Aguilar is currently a Lead Software Engineer at Vendorflow. Prior to this, they were a Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack at NEXT Trucking from May 2019 to July 2021. While at NEXT Trucking, they built and maintained an asynchronous service which intakes Delivery Order PDFs and automated the data extraction & aggregation, which led to an automated process for creating container orders. Socorro also migrated databases from BigTable to PSQL for two separate, but interdependent services.

In addition, after noticing the miscommunication during the translation of business requirements into technical requirements, they led the product and engineering team in embracing a better format for writing user stories. This entailed a consistent ticket format and the use of Behavior Driven Development (BDD) syntax. This also allowed engineers to easily translate user stories into unit and integration tests.

During their time at NEXT Trucking, they also stepped in as interim Lead Engineer for their feature team during the second month. This included leading stand-up, working with the Product Manager to prioritize sprint work, and providing thoroughly vetted user story tickets written in BDD format (Gherkin). In addition, they heavily refactored the frontend application, which included introducing better unit & integration tests as well as proper use of redux and component state. Socorro also led the endeavor to uplevel engineers in their React + Redux knowledge via lunch & learns and code reviews. Furthermore, they led the project to convert the frontend’s type-checking library from Flow to TypeScript. Lastly, they built a proof of concept backend for frontend (BFF) using Node.js, Nest.js, and GraphQL. This was quickly integrated into the overall architecture of the application as an intermediary between the Spring backend and React frontend.

Socorro Aguilar holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Science from California State University, Long Beach, and an International Baccalaureate Diploma from Modesto High School.
