John Culbertson

An industry veteran of more than 30 years, John’s experience encompasses quantitative trading, asset allocation, venture and private equity investing, and family office advisory. He has been an advisor to the family office that owns Context Capital Partners for ten years. John was also a partner in Context Capital Partners, where he held the title of President and Chief Investment Officer. He was responsible for the firm’s strategic development and managed Context’s wide range of partnerships with asset managers. Context Capital Partners is also the parent company of Context Business Lending, Context Summits, and Context Family Network. He currently is a strategic advisor to, and board member of, the Context portfolio of businesses.

Prior to assuming his position with Context, John was the Chief Investment Officer for a single-family office where he oversaw a portfolio of hedge funds and was responsible for asset allocation and risk management. He was a founder of Gamma Investors, a private investment partnership that managed venture investments and a portfolio of hedge funds.

John started his career as an options trader on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, eventually becoming a partner at Cooper Neff and Associates. At Cooper Neff, he founded the London office and traded derivatives on fixed income instruments, commodities, and equities. That firm was sold to BNP Paribas in 1995, at which time, he became an Executive Vice President. While at BNP, John managed the NY fixed income derivatives team and led an initiative that commercialized portions of the proprietary trading IP. He is currently a board member of Wincoram Asset Management, which provides financial solutions to energy companies.

John received his undergraduate degree in Business and Economics from Rutgers University and earned a Master of Liberal Arts studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
