Vermont Gas Systems, Inc.
Vermont Gas Systems provides clean, affordable natural gas to over 50,000 families, businesses, and institutions in Chittenden and Franklin counties. Through energy efficiency and prevented emissions from heating oil and propane, the company’s customers annually avoid carbon emissions equivalent to almost 10% of the emissions of Vermont’s cars and trucks. And by almost completely replacing older pipe in its system, the company has eliminated significant amounts of methane leakage typical of older pipeline networks. Vermont’s natural gas is transported from Canada via the TransCanada Pipe Line and enters at Highgate, on the Vermont/Canada border. Vermont Gas serves customers through a network of more than 750 miles of underground transmission and distribution lines. Vermont Gas doesn’t just deliver gas. Its energy efficiency programs help reduce energy use and emissions, and save customers more than $14 million per year – money that can be invested in jobs, education, health care, families and communities. Vermont Gas will implement energy efficiency and innovation options to grow and remain a central partner in the shared effort to achieve Vermont’s clean energy future.
