Sam Carford

Sam Carford is the current HR Director at Vernalis. Prior to this, they held the position of HR Manager at the company from September 2001 to February 2015. In this role, they reported directly to the CEO and was responsible for managing the company’s HR function, with a focus on recruitment, performance, and employee engagement. Sam was also responsible for all HR-related administration, including managing an outsourced payroll.

Some of Sam’s other duties included chairing the Staff Consultative Committee and being part of the US Business launch committee. Sam oversaw all recruitment activities in both the UK and US, and was responsible for drafting new employee handbooks and offer letters. Sam successfully implemented auto enrollment compliance and salary sacrifice on the pension scheme, and they are widely considered to be an expert in their field.

After completing a Certificate in Management from Anglia Ruskin University, Sam Carford pursued a career in human resources and obtained a certification from the CIPD in Chartered Member. Sam then completed a BA(Hons) in Geography & Communication Studies from Anglia Ruskin University.

Sam Carford reports to Mike Wood, Managing Director. Sam Carford works with Karen Benwell - Head of Biochemical Sciences and DMPK, Clare Searle - Finance Director, and Lee Walmsley - Senior Team Leader, Chemistry.
