Jeff Underhill

Jeff Underhill is a seasoned professional in process development with extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. Currently serving as a Process Development Principal Engineer at Vertex Pharmaceuticals since June 2025, Jeff has previously held significant positions such as Principal Engineer at CARGO Therapeutics, where responsibilities included leading cross-functional teams for the manufacturing of lentiviral vector drug substances for CAR-T therapies. At GentiBio, Jeff advanced the establishment of internal lentiviral vector process development capabilities. Prior roles at Sana Biotechnology involved developing production processes for viral vector gene therapies, while experience at Amgen focused on optimizing cell culture processes for biologics. Jeff holds a Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Bioengineering and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics, both from the University of Washington.
