Waseem K. Raja

Waseem K. Raja, Ph.D., currently serves as a Senior Principal Scientist at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, having joined the company in July 2024. Prior to this role, Waseem held the position of Principal Scientist - Translation in in vitro Biology at Ring Therapeutics, where responsibilities included establishing the in vitro biology team and utilizing emerging technologies for gene therapy. Waseem's previous experience includes leading discovery biology initiatives at Yumanity Therapeutics, where contributions advanced a clinical candidate to Phase I, and pioneering neurodegenerative disease models during a postdoctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Earlier, Waseem designed a silk-based transdermal vaccine delivery device during a postdoctoral associate position at Tufts University. Academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in Biology from the University at Albany and a master's degree in Physics from the same institution, complemented by a post-graduate diploma in Quality Management Systems from the National University of Sciences and Technology.
