David Lao Martil

David Lao Martil has a strong background in bioengineering and computational biology. David is currently working as a Process Engineer at Vertoro B.V., where they are involved in upscaling biofuel production processes to a commercial scale. Their responsibilities include experimental work in the plant, dynamic and techno-economic modeling.

Prior to their current role, David worked as a PhD Candidate in the Computational Biology group at Eindhoven University of Technology. During their time there, they focused on kinetic modeling in the field of biomedical engineering.

David also gained industry experience as an Intern at DSM, where they worked on various projects from April 2017 to October 2017. Before that, they interned at Wageningen University & Research, where they worked in the Bioprocess Engineering Group, focusing on metabolic modeling and parameter estimation in microalgae.

David's earlier experiences include internships at University of Otago and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. At University of Otago, they worked on heterologous protein expression in Mycobacterium, while at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, they focused on optimizing growth and sedimentation conditions in microalgae strains.

David Lao Martil pursued their education in the field of Biotechnology. David completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain, from 2011 to 2015. Following this, they continued their academic journey at Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands, where they earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Biotechnology between 2015 and 2017. Additionally, they participated in an exchange semester as part of their undergraduate program at the University of Technology Sydney in 2014.
