Carl Willis

Senior Research Engineer at Verus Research

Carl Willis has a diverse work experience in the field of radiation safety and nuclear engineering. Carl started their career in 2006 at Linac Systems, LLC, where they designed and tested a lithium target for an accelerator-based neutron source and managed the radiation safety program.

In 2011, Carl joined Qynergy Corporation as a Development Engineer, leading research on piezoelectric neutron generators and semiconductor radiodiodes for betavoltaic applications. Carl also worked on other projects related to electrochemical solution growth and thermal battery materials.

At Ion Linac Systems, Inc., starting in 2011, Carl served as a Radiation Safety Officer overseeing a proton linear accelerator facility. Carl provided consultation on accelerator applications and radiation diagnostics.

In 2015, Carl founded Willis Scientific Enterprises LLC and served as its President. Carl organized radiation safety workshops in collaboration with the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, providing hands-on experience and training to non-routine radiation workers.

From 2017, Carl has been working at The University of New Mexico as a Faculty Lecturer II and Chief Reactor Supervisor.

Most recently, in 2019, they joined Verus® Research (formerly XL Scientific®) as a Senior Research Engineer.

Carl Willis completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Physics at Guilford College from 1999 to 2003. Carl then pursued a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering at The Ohio State University from 2003 to 2006.
