Grady L. Patterson IV

Grady L. Patterson, IV, has spent the last decade leading diverse scientific and engineering programs spanning multiple technical areas associated with high-power microwave (HPM) system development and effects testing.

Grady is a member and the Chief Executive Officer of Verus Research (formerly XL Scientific, LLC). Previously, he served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer.

From 2011 to 2015, Grady was a Senior Engineer and Business Development Lead for TechFlow, Inc.’s Scientific Division, ending his tenure as Division Director. He was responsible for division-wide forecasting, program execution, and business development. Grady also planned and managed various HPM effects testing efforts on digital electronics and small marine engines.

Before joining TechFlow, Grady was the program manager for the HPM modeling and simulation team at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). He oversaw the business development and program execution of HPM modeling and simulation from source design to mission-level analysis. He also planned and executed HPM system validation and effects tests for multiple programs.

Prior to joining industry, Grady served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a Research Physicist with the Air Force Research Laboratory’s High Power Microwave Division, ending his active duty service as the Division Test Director. Grady continues to serve in the South Carolina Air National Guard as the Commander of the 169th Maintenance Operations Flight at McEntire Joint National Guard base.

In the community, Grady is a board member for the Rotary Club of Greenville, South Carolina, serves as a legislative appointee to the Greenville County First Steps board of directors, and is a founding board member for the Palmetto Shared Services Alliance.

Grady received his bachelor’s degree in physics from Davidson College and his master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico. He holds two patents for electromagnetic power density and field characterization techniques.
