Jason Thompson

Jason Thompson, MS, CRISC, CISM, CGEIT has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Jason started their career in the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant Avionics Technician, where they were responsible for ensuring aircraft compliance and safety. Jason then worked as a Staff Accountant at Joyner, Kirkham, Keel & Robertson, P.C. and later as a Senior Accountant at Alterra Capital Services USA LLC.

In 2011, Jason joined Capital One as a Principal Accounting Specialist, leading teams in managing special projects and operations related to Card Accounting & Reconciliation. Jason established strong working relationships between on-shore and off-shore teams, contributing to effective collaboration.

Since 2014, Jason has been with Virginia Housing, where they have held various positions. Initially, they served as an Organizational Health Reporting and Risk Analyst, focusing on driving trust and transparency between business lines and risk. Later, they became the Enterprise Risk Director, overseeing the development and implementation of risk management strategies and programs. Currently, they serve as the Associate Chief of Finance, providing financial division management support.

Jason Thompson earned their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University, where they studied from 2003 to 2006. Jason furthered their education by obtaining a Master of Science (MS) degree in Accounting from Strayer University, attending from 2007 to 2008.

In addition to their academic achievements, Jason Thompson has also obtained several certifications in the field of information systems and governance. Jason holds the Certified In Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) certification, which they obtained from ISACA in January 2019. Jason also achieved the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification from ISACA in May 2020. Furthermore, they obtained the Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) certification from ISACA in July 2021.

To enhance their skills and knowledge, Jason Thompson has also completed the COBIT-5 Foundation certification from PeopleCert in July 2017. Additionally, they have obtained the COBIT-5 Implementation certification from the same institution in July 2017.
